Spaghetti

Date: June 4th, 2025

Reason for Cooking: Wanted to end my project with a classic. I've helped my mom with spaghetti before but never done it start-to-finish solo.

What I Learned:

Timing pasta and sauce together is trickier than it looks. And salt is super important in pasta water!

What Worked Well:

I saved some pasta water to help the sauce stick, and it made a huge difference. Also, sautéing garlic in olive oil before adding sauce brought out way more flavor.

What Didn't Work:

I overcooked the noodles slightly because I forgot to check al dente timing. Also used too much sauce at first which made it kind of soupy.

Adjustments Made:

Added red chili flakes and oregano to jarred sauce.

What I'd Do Differently:

Use fresh basil or parmesan next time. And set a timer for the pasta!

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • ½ box (about 225g) spaghetti

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 ½ cups jarred tomato sauce

  • Ground beef

  • ¼ cup reserved pasta water

  • Salt, pepper, chili flakes, oregano

Steps:

  1. Boil spaghetti in salted water until al dente.

  2. Reserve some pasta water before draining.

  3. In pan, heat olive oil, sauté garlic.

  4. Cook ground beef.

  5. Add sauce and spices. Simmer 5–10 mins.

  6. Add pasta and reserved water. Toss to coat.

  7. Serve with grated cheese or basil if available.
